Love feast: 'Come and dine!'
Saturday 21 February 2009
It is a wonderful feeling when God sets a feast before us; God always knows how to meet your every need and He wants us to come just as we are before Him.
Our monthly youth event began with an opening song (name of song) and prayer. To get everyone working together, a general knowledge quiz was run by Banji Alade, subjects were sports, biblical, finance and politics. The atmosphere was great, all teams had on their game face and worked together to answer each question. The winning team received a box of chocolate.
The food ranging from a variety of African and West Indian dishes was fantastic.
“This is nice food”
“I think we should feast like this once a year”
“I thin I will have to come back for second round, this food is just too good”
A few weeks to the event, the youths were asked to write a poem on ‘the love of God.’ They were free to express themselves individually or as a group. You wouldn’t believe the talents the young people have, the poems were fist class which made it difficult choosing a winner. We pray that God will continue to inspire them.
After the meal, prizes were presented for:
•all those we submitted a poem
•the most inspiring poem
•best dressed male and female
We move onto the main topic of the evening an open forum for discussions on ‘isolation: is there a solution?’ Several young people were given the opportunity to express their views and thoughts.
Some of the points were:
“Due to the misdeeds of some young people, all young people are labelled bad”
“Some young people feel isolated because they don’t fit in, they may look different, they may talk different so people ignore them, people don’t value what they have to say…so with time that person will withdraw and when they can’t take it anymore, they lash out in destructive ways.”
“I think having events like this helps young people speak their mind, share what is happening to them and get help.”
“Having someone to talk to helps, and having a church that supports young people makes a difference, at least they won’t feel so alone.”
We thank God for the success for the event and believe that as He began this event with us He will bless and give victory to all upcoming activities.
